First, we will sharpen our senses with classic beer styles such as Pils, IPA, and Weizen, and finally get to know a few expensive and unusual beers:
Deus Brut des Flanders
Schneider Weisse Cuvée Barrique (Tap X)
Lindemans Oude Kriek Cuvée René 2023
Wymrażany Komes Porter Jack Daniels Barrel Aged
Since it's January and the New Year, we can't miss out on Bière de Champagne, or “beer champagne.” Deus Brut des Flanders, produced by the Belgian brewery Bosteels, is a beer that undergoes processes known from the production of sparkling wines (remuage, dégorgement).
We are still in a toasting mood. Another suggestion is Schneider Weisse Cuvée Barrique (Tap X), an outstanding representative of the German brewing school. It is an exceptional wheat bock beer aged in oak wine barrels. Each edition of Tap X tastes slightly different depending on the barrels used and the aging time.
Another suggestion that reminds us of New Year's Eve celebrations is Lindemans Oude Kriek Cuvée René 2023. Unlike the sweet, commercial “Krieks,” the Oude (Old) version is a tribute to tradition and a true, dry Lambic. It is a spontaneously fermented beer with stable notes, aged in barrels, refermented in bottles, and sealed with a cork like champagne.
The last, very strong proposal comes from Poland.
Wymrażany Komes Porter is one of the strongest beers on the Polish market. It is an extreme interpretation of Baltic Porter, or Piwowarski Skarb Polski (“Polish Brewing Treasure”). The production technology for this beer is based on freeze distillation, which drastically concentrates the flavor and aroma and increases the alcohol content (often above 20%). What's more, this thick, oily drink is then transferred to Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey barrels.
